Mystery Booster Commander Commander Draft Tier List (Early Evaluation)

S, A, and B bands from Gen Con spoilers—not final constructed truth.

Commander Tiers

This commander tier list ranks Mystery Booster Commander Edition legends for Commander Draft pods using Gen Con 2026 spoilers, floor reports, and theorycraft—not hundreds of logged MTGO leagues. Label every placement as early spoiler evaluation. Festival in a Box and MagicCon Atlanta will reshuffle averages once random pools stabilize. Constructed Commander power levels differ; a B-tier draft legend can still be a beloved hundred-card deck after release.

Tier criteria emphasize color identity flexibility in wide pools, immediate board impact, synergy with common reprint types, rulebreaker clauses that actually matter during a single draft session, and eligibility for the synthetic partner exception when you want two legends.

S tier — draft anchors

Tolabow, Loch Rascal earns S tier because instant-and-sorcery density is high in this product, Otter tokens snowball, and the rulebreaker color flex lets you splash one extra color for spells you already drafted. Oracle text limits abuse, but even fair builds outpace slow legends.

Seluma, Light of Aysen climbs when Angel density appears in wildcards or colored slots; flying plus reanimation on combat damage closes games in four-player pods. Rulebreaker color flex for Angels is harder to exploit in sixty-card Limited than constructed, but any Angel you open becomes playable.

Mono-color legends eligible for synthetic partner with strong standalone text—examples from spoilers include efficient red aggressive bodies and mono-white weenies—often outperform slow three-color value legends when you can pair two S-tier mono cards. Consult partner pairings before forcing pairs that lack shared support.

Valko Indorian sits at S tier in pools with Phyrexian creatures or modular artifacts that care about menace and lifelink. Without Phyrexian density, drop to A tier.

A tier — strong with setup

Joven and Chandler is A tier: artifact death triggers scale quickly in artifact-heavy Mystery Booster pools, and theft abilities steal mana rocks. Three-color identity prevents synthetic partner, so you need all three colors online—not always guaranteed.

Zagorka, Mother of Sanctum ranks A for political tables that accept group-hug angles; spikes may downrate her without guaranteed payoffs for land creation packages.

Miss Highwater, Jabs, Mistress of Mockery, and other midcurve legends with card advantage tied to combat or spells belong here when colors align. They lack the self-contained plan Tolabow provides but scale with good rares.

Reprinted commander slot hits—well-known EDH staples opened in the dedicated reprint slot—default to A tier when they match your pool. Unknown deep cuts drop to B until proven.

B tier — situational or slow

Whtz, the Bibliophile is B in Limited despite flashy rulebreaker text: sixty-card decks still apply, and building around library size is impractical during draft. Constructed curiosity only.

High-mana legends without immediate impact sit in B unless your pool grants heavy ramp from wildcard rocks. Mystery Booster provides some ramp, but not consistently.

Niche tribal legends without tribal density in pool—squirrels, clowns, Nephilim—stay B until you commit early picks to synergy.

Planeswalker commanders with defensive plus ones but no immediate board presence risk B-tier unless your pool protects walkers well.

How to use tiers at the table

During pick-two, tier differences matter most in pack three when two legends compete. Earlier picks should prioritize fixing and removal over guessing your legend. After pool completion, compare your best two legends using tiers as tiebreakers, then check partner eligibility on the partner checker.

Update personal tiers when you draft: if your pool lacks instants, Tolabow falls; if you opened multiple Angels, Seluma rises. Static lists cannot capture Mystery Booster variance—that is feature, not bug.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players look up before and after a Mystery Booster Commander event.

Is this tier list for cEDH?

No. It targets Commander Draft with Mystery Booster Commander Edition boosters. Constructed tiers will differ after Festival in a Box release.

Why is Tolabow S tier but Whtz is B tier?

Tolabow synergizes with common spell density and token pressure in Limited. Whtz rulebreaker does not help sixty-card draft decks meaningfully.

Will tiers change after MagicCon Atlanta?

Expect movement as more pods log results, especially for reprint-dependent legends and partner pairs.
